The Hounds Battle NW Winds

With the freezing air blowing from the NW at 15-20 mph, the wind chill of 14° was a well deserved rating. Of course there is one hound that has a pretty high temperature threshold for staying any length of time outside, Heidi knew it wasn't 70°.

Today we had windchill below 20° ... so Heidi moved into her deep winter mode to beat the freezing temps.

Hounds Feel The Coldest Day Yet


It's the coldest day of this winter, not 2017. We stepped outside in 25° and the bloodhounds were energized. Stella continued her new routine of getting way ahead of us while Sadie chased her down and kept her under control for me.

Different Hounds Different Personalities



Nothing was more evident about basset hounds being different from bloodhounds than this morning. The word 'hounds' is about the only thing they have in common. With a wind chill of 35° this morning Heidi wasn't moving from her Marmot sleeping bag while Sadie and Stella walked, wrestled and then wanted a ride.

Bloodhounds Search For Missing Glove


I found out soon after starting the morning walk that I was missing a glove. I suspected it was back at the house but just in case, the hounds and I retraced our path when we returned. All I told them we needed to find the glove, they seemed to understand. Sadie seemed to think folding her ears might help finding the glove. Before that it was a normal sunny cold morning walk.
