I was going to write just a paragraph and list all the photos of the hounds but there were too many 'topics' just to do that. Now I see after loading all the photos into the blog at once like I always do, they are in reverse order than what I wanted. So, here we go with a little commentary below the photos.
I like this little house on 8 acres just east of the San Pedro River down in Cochise County. It's been for sale before but I really like it. The problem is when I see the 486 sq ft, I could handle that alone but not with the two hounds and the dog. To get a good visual all I have to do is stand in my 400 sq ft great room and try to fit everything in that room to get an idea what I would have out there. You can't beat the mountain views though and the weather. I love the high desert, what can I say?
Unlike another off grid house I liked last winter, this has a water well that works and a septic system already installed in working order. Tempting.
With only a few home games left I headed down to old Bosse Stadium Field last Saturday night to watch the Evansville Otters play the Washington Wild Things. Free ticket and I sat here, first row of the general admission. This is professional baseball in the Independent League. Many players have been drafted and have played in the MLB Minor Leagues, some have played for college teams and some still have the dream of reaching the major leagues ... some do in fact.
Bosse Stadium Field is where they filmed the Tom Hanks movie "A League Of Their Own".
The visiting team "Wild Things" are in the red uniforms.
The home team Otters were wearing their blue jerseys Saturday night.
While I was at the Casino sports bar having lunch, I noticed they had a hot fudge sundae on the menu. I had to try it since I was falling off my diet wagon hard last Friday. A friend came down to play craps with me. I taught her the game of craps and she always has me eating food that I have stayed away from.
I was 9 days away from two months exactly of eating LCHF food. I have lost 12 pounds since June 20 and very little bike riding helped me lose those pounds. It took a while for my body to accept fat instead of carbs as my fuel to ride a bike. That is too long to discuss here. The most important thing with my change in eating ... zero indigestion now, plus never hungry during the day. Beef is the main meal daily with wild caught salmon sprinkled in.
Yes ... that sundae was very very good.
My friend that just had to have a bulldog that looked like Walter, sent me this photo of Hank the other day after the temps in the 90s had dropped to the low 80's. He is much bigger than Walter but identical color.
We've had some minor projects in the garage lately. The hounds and the dog have to supervise, inspect and approve everything I do. That Sony box is still here ... I keep that in case I ever decide to move. That way I will have the original packaging for the tv ... no plans to move though ... but you never know.
With the cooler morning temps that concrete floor is pretty cold and feels good.
Walter gets 'anxious' anytime there is something going on, so he pants a lot even when the temps are cool.
Proof that Watson will not go outside in the rain.
With the hounds and the dog outgrowing their destruction phase while they were puppies and no longer chewing on things, it might be time for some new tables in the great room.
Two friends asked me if I wanted their dog beds now that their dogs had passed. They have been used daily/nightly and all three love them. You have seen the one on the left a few blog posts ago but the big "couch" is a hit with all three. They rotate the beds and sleeping locations during the night and never end up where they started sleeping.
bethers: That cabin is adorable! Do you know what they want for it? What site lists off grid stuff like that?
ReplyDeleteI use Zillow so I can see a good map of the area, plus they show property that is for sale by owner. What they DON'T show is when a property is on contract or pending. So Realtor dot com is my main source for house hunting. I have a list of favorites I can keep an eye on. Mainly I like to see if the prices move in the Sierra Vista area ... they are still going up two years after I moved. They want $195K for the cabin.
DeleteJust wanted to add...I'm in around 400 sq feet now and think I could go to 300+ comfortably. It really seems to depend on the layout. In a small space the heat bill is great in the winter... around $50 per month or less for me depending on how cold it gets...
ReplyDeleteThe last off grid house was around 650 sq ft but it also had a separate building for an office/computer stuff. The small gift shop out in Dos Cabezos I made an offer on had a little over 750 and livable but didn't have a water source or septic hook up. Since this does that is why it is so tempting.
DeleteOne thing I found living out there, the hounds and I spent a lot more time outside most days unless the weather was bad. It does get cold out there in the winter in the early morning. So really I think all four of us could handle the small living space ... I really just need a hard shell building to hide out in when it's dark or bad weather, so 465 sq ft would be enough.
I have too much house here but it makes things very convenient.
Nice to hear how you and the gang are doing. We are now waiting for tropical storm Hilary to hit So Cal. We expect well over 4 inches of rain on Sunday. Always something.
ReplyDeleteI saw that and it's hard to believe a storm like that is happening out there. Are you ready for USC football? I've always liked them but I am not a fan of all the conference realignment. They have no business in the BigTen. I hope there will be no chance of mudslides in your area during or after that storm.
DeleteYes, looking forward to SC football and flying the banner outside when they win. Time will tell how they do with not being a part of the Big Ten. My husband would have agreed with your thoughts on the realignment.
DeleteHere on the mountain we survived Hurricane/Tropical Storm Hilary. Could have given it a different name as far as I am concerned, but no one asked me. From 3 AM Sunday morning to this morning (Monday) at 7 AM, my unofficial rain gauge collected 11 1/2 inches of rain. Haven't seen anything like this since 2010 when we had over 30 inches in 3 days. Fortunately, the winds were nothing like predicted. Our Cal Trans fellows were out there on top of clearing the falling rocks, boulders, etc. All in all we avoided the bullet, but most of SoCal is a real mess and tons of damage.
Second try to post this... Yes, ready for SC football and flying the banner outside when they win. Know my husband would have agreed with your thoughts on the realignment.
DeleteOur mountain survived Hurricane/Tropical Storm Hilary (no one asked me about naming this one unfortunately LOL). From 3 AM Sunday morning to 7 AM this morning (Monday) my unofficial rain gauge collected 11 1/2 inches of rain. Brought back memories of 2010 when we had well over 30 inches in three days, filling the lake to overflowing. The winds were not as predicted, our roads, etc. are in good shape and very few lost power at times. We were very fortunate up here. The same cannot be said for most of Southern California.
Sorry about you not seeing your first post. For some reason both of your comments ended up in the Moderation Folder, where I had to approve them for them to show up. I'll recheck my settings because that should not have happened.
DeleteThat is A LOT of rain !!! Holy cow. Glad to hear there was little damage where you were and roads are in good shape. It will be interesting to see what the winter will bring this winter.
