I stopped by the Old Fashioned Butcher Shoppe yesterday on my way home. I was looking for some boneless beef fat as a supplement for Cletus. It was suggested that might help putting some meat on those bones of his. He eats non-stop if I would let him, but doesn't gain the weight he needs.
This is a smaller bone size, one bone each for Ava and Walter. The other bones were slightly bigger cut and just the right size for Henry, Watson and Cletus. So far after 15 minutes there have been no fights nor are they wanting someone else's bone. Watson and Walter are here in the computer room with me chewing away, Cletus snuck to the bedroom, Ava ran for her crate with the bone in her mouth and Henry chose a sunny spot in the great room.
The temps have really dropped today. It is almost too cool to have the windows up but they are. A nice strong breeze has been flying through the house since we got up at 5:15am this morning. Sunny and extremely nice outside.
When I took my Subaru out to the dealer for its annual oil change and tire rotation on Monday, I knew this 2013 Toyota FJ was on their lot. I had looked at the photos and it looked great. Yet, after 11 years of having FJ's I have learned no matter how good they look in the photos, there is a reason they never take photos of the undercarriage.
I liked the all Navy gray look. Of course most here know that I am a fan of rock rails and black wheels on the ones I have owned. Those Toyota TRD wheels are nice plus there were no dents, or scratches on the body.
It wasn't until I walked behind it and noticed how rusty the trailer hitch was. Why wouldn't they have sanded that off and put a fresh coat of black paint on it? That was a red flag to me. As I moved to my knees to look under the FJ, I sat my glasses and iPhone on ground first. What I saw underneath was a rust nightmare. It looked like old VW buses that has been sitting in a snow bank during the winter.
One thing I have learned about Toyota FJs in 11 years ... if you see rust there is so much more rust that you don't see and in most cases even more rust than you are seeing. I enjoyed the ride home in my Subaru Wilderness model and thought to myself how times have changed with me and Toyota FJs.
25 minutes later still no dog fighting, nobody had moved from their bone and was not even interested in sprinting outside when they heard some of the dogs in the neighborhood barking.
I was able to see the lab bloodwork numbers on my account online the other night. I plugged the data into my spreadsheet to compare to the bloodwork numbers in December 2019. I had great results then as the NP let me know to keep doing what I was doing. This year, a little over 5 years later almost all of the numbers were even better. I have not been called to discuss those numbers with the doctor.
Yesterday as I was leaving I noticed the nurse that did the echocardiogram was in an upbeat mood and tone of voice as we left her office. I can only take that as my aortic valve looked good, especially since she told me at the start of the echocardiogram that my valve the point of emphasis today and she would be taking more photos of that than she normally does. I am to hear from the cardiologist within the week on those results.
Besides a physical on my appointment request a few weeks ago I wanted a chest x-ray and to talk to a pulmonary doctor. I did get the x-ray but have not heard anything about it. Is it no news is good news? Today I get a call from the Pulmonary Dept to set up an appointment. The earliest I could see a doctor was September and to take a "function test" was July.
The nasal spray prescribed had really decreased my coughing and the 'stuff' in my airways.
Looks like Indiana is getting some new turf installed in their football stadium. Those are not my photos, I stole them from the internet on X today.
This is a good place to stop this post. Walter just walked away to get a drink of water in the mudroom and instantly Watson jumped over and took his bone. We might have our first conflict as I hear Walter coming back up the hallway.
Anyway it was a great day here in "the tropics" of Southern Indiana.

Hope you get a good report from the cardiologist. The crew look like they are very protective of their bones. Hope they don't have a conflict !

As of this morning there were no conflicts, although Watson ended up taking 3 of them and keeping them near while he chewed on one. Ava ended up going out in the backyard with hers.
DeleteThe photo of Walter and his bone is priceless! Nice that your numbers are good. Keeping good thoughts and continue prayers for good news on the aortic valve.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the positive thoughts. If you could have heard Walter licking away on his bone to get to that middle marrow you would have laughed. Made more noise than all of them.
DeleteGreat idea! Too bad you couldn't sneak a video of Walter. We once asked the crazy butchers at the store we both worked if they had any leg bones for our dogs. The guy went into the backroom and came out with the whole dang leg. Ankle joint and hip, ball-joint and all, stripped of the meat. He says with a huge laugh "Which part do ya want?" My husband reached over and pointed out the two sections, one for each dog. Too funny. The dogs loved them. I think they chewed on them for years.
ReplyDeleteOf course, this was when the store still had union butchers in them and the meat didn't come from a meat-cutting plant.
That is a family owned butcher shop and from local Southern Indiana cattle. A long time ago I bought a femur about that big for my first bloodhound Max. It was so long he couldn't get it in or out the door, wider than the door. They have been sharing the bones well today, still no fights. I am kinda surprised about that.
DeleteHappy Dawgs!!!
ReplyDeleteI think they were in heaven by the way they acted. LOL ... and days later, a week as of today ... no fights over the bones.
