A Little More Snow

Henry definitely could be in that cartoon.

You know when you get this in your email things are not good around town. Schnuck's is one of the local grocery stores. A couple of miles from the house. They were going to be open normal hours based on their email notice yesterday. A lot of snow but not as much as my friends are battling up where I used to live 110 miles north of here.

My friend that is maybe in his 50s is going to get on the roof of that house someway around 11amET their time. Their neighbors in that house texted him and think their roof vent is blocked because their pilot light on their furnace keeps going out. That is a pretty big snow drift on their roof. She was in the process of cleaning off her porch. She is the one that stayed with the dogs and hounds the night I was in the hospital.

Watson has decided the NFL Playoff games today and tonight will entertain us enough to keep from getting cabin fever. Will the number of times they go outside and back inside decrease? I doubt that.

Soon after I made the Sunday morning post, I glanced outside to see what was going on. It was supposed to stop around 2pm today. If it does, I am going to shovel a path along the side of the house and yards out to the corner of the fence. It is light snow so it should be okay. I'd also like to clear the patio of all the snow and might have to shovel that instead of using the leaf blower.

Pedro is my measuring stick. This was around 10am Sunday morning.

The bulldog on the front porch reminds me of Jack Nicholson at the end of the movie The Shining. LOL

I have seen only one pickup truck pass by the house so far Sunday. With a State Travel Emergency I doubt many cars are traveling today.

Hard to tell how much of this snow is drifts or normal deep snow. I am not going to try to find out any time soon.

The hounds let me know there was some activity outside. You can tell how deep the snow was if you look at those edges of their driveway.

Digging out in front of their son's car just enough to get a good head start when he decides to drive again.

They also dug out in front of this car, knowing the snow plow would probably come by and might cover their driveway entrance and the entrance to mine.

I walked out the side garage door and let them know they didn't have to do my side of the driveway where my FJ would be going. They had already started on that side but it was so cold I didn't want them to spend any more time than needed to get their two cars in a better situation. My FJ will make tracks and I can use that to mash down the snow in my drive whenever I decide to leave.

Once the snow let up I put on a down jacket liner, under my Carhartt jacket, wool sock hat and ski gloves then headed outside with my snow shovel in hand. Less than 30 minutes later I was finished and my Apple Watch told me I never got above 95bpm on my heart rate. If the cardiologist told me I could go for walks in 5° weather then to me it wouldn't be too strenuous in 17° weather in light puffy snow.

A few hours later I see my cleaned patio covered again, under a heavy snow.

When the hounds and dogs did go out, they didn't stay out long, it was still really cold.

The snow plow made another trip through the neighborhood but was nice enough to slow down near driveways so they would not spray snow on those that had been shoveled out.

That is about it for this snow storm. Clear skies for the next 10 days but temperatures way below normal. The snow will be here for a while.

Two NFL playoff games got me through the day and putting this blog post together.

It was nice not to lose power this year, in "the tropics" of Southern Indiana.

  1. Great news you kept power and could watch your games and this winter has been active for sure.
