Walter Said We're Good

About an hour after last nights post it started getting a little exciting. Storm systems blowing in at 70-80mph changed what I said real quick. We were good up to that point. Luckily and once again, the system blew south of us a few miles across the Ohio River. Yet one system seemed to bypass my side of town and ended up in the eastern part of town around I-69 and headed NE.

After publishing my Friday night post, I thought I'd check to see what the local tv weather was saying. I tuned into see my play-by-play weather call, grabbed a tall glass of water and moved over to the kitchen table to play Mahjong on my old laptop. From that seat I can look out into the greatroom, see the tv and know if we might have some issues or not.

The key to all of this severe weather storm was Walter. Walter?? Yes, Walter. If you remember a few weeks ago when the tornado was a warning and not a watch, all four of us moved to the master bathroom away from windows and behind a brick wall, as if that would make a difference. Last night was a watch and at no time was my tv weatherman or my iPhone emergency announcements telling me to take cover. The new word for that I guess was on this channel say "get to your safe place" .... ah that's another post. Ha Unbelievable.

This was Walter a few weeks ago hiding with the rest of us in the master bathroom. That day was a tornado warning and later finding out the air pressure set a record. Last night even when the tv announcer was a little stressed, Walter was sleeping on the couch and snoring louder than ever. In fact when I decided to call it a night at 10:35pm, he never woke up. So I knew things were pretty good with the storm front and us. Another new term I picked up on last nights tv play-by-play was ... "tornadic activity". We had a lot of it around us.

Of course after a storm front passing through like that with tornadic activity, it is going to be a windy day. It has been. In fact so windy that Henry wasn't sure he was going to be able to walk into the headwind. His ears were fully extended backwards as he marched forward. So, both hounds got their walks this morning at 51°.

I pulled out of the driveway this morning later than I wanted, heading to the city annual electronics recycling. There wasn't much of a line even when I got there, so I was in and out pretty quick. That is Henry enjoying today in cloudy skies, winds and 48°. 

Yes, just as I was walking out to the patio with my camera in hand, I caught Watson red handed trying to pull a little patch of grass out of the yard. He stopped trying when he heard his name being called.

Sound to sleep.

I felt more comfortable this winter and spring when we had high wind storms. Last year I wasn't sure how strong those trees were behind my fence until the utility company tree company had two people climbing all over those trees last summer trimming the limbs away from their power lines. You can barely see them about half way up the photo.

When the wind is howling like I hear now, the chances of those trees blowing over is slim. If they were to be blown over they would fall to the right parallel to the fence. My high winds come from the S/SW most of the time.

Cincinnati weather shouldn't be much different than the weather here today, just a couple of hundred miles away. So it should be a pretty interesting baseball game this afternoon. Cold and windy, doubt if they have many fans show up for that. That game will lead me into the two NCAA Final 4 basketball games.

I am rooting for FAU to win because of where their coach is from. Plus he is an IU alum like me. From the one game I saw UConn play .... I think they will win their game tonight and their Monday night for the championship, no matter who they play. They are that good. You never know though in this years tournament and they might get upset.

So that is our storm update. A lot of nearby tornadic activity around us, but Walter let us know we were safe and could sleep soundly.
