Back To The Original Plan

Back in October 2011 when I read an article on Yahoo Business page about Glen living full-time in his van, that led me to blogs of people doing this full-time in all different kinds of vehicles. I have followed a lot of those blogs since that time, learning a ton of information about the RV lifestyle on the road.

After my blog post last night, thoughts started literally bombarding my mind. Clear thoughts, a lot of thoughts....to the point I wondered if I should go back and delete that post because of all the indecision I had written about. A couple of things struck me as quite clear.

1.  What was my original plan back in October 2011?
2.  What caused all my excitement to the point of an obsession?
3.  WHY ... yes, why was I wanting to do this?

When I answered those three questions, I had my clear plan once again and my "to do list" was out visibly so I could check the items off and get closer to a departure date. Like anything else, when you stray from a plan, confusion, indecision and 2nd guessing come into play.

All of the answers to those 3 questions were applicable 10 months later.

So, with it being a cool sunny morning here in the "tropics" of Southern Indiana, I am having one more cup of coffee then hitting my list of things to do and back to my downsizing expedition.

  1. Yes...we have to keep reminding ourselves of the prize. I sure don't want to have regrets later! Keep that pencil sharpened and checking off that list! :) ~cozygirl

    1. I don't want any later either. You just never know what is around the corner of life. I got a few things checked off my list today. Tomorrow is going to be another busy day.

  2. You'll arrive at what's best for you because you are devoting a lot of time and thought during your "dream phase." I did the same thing and my final decision evolved to what suits me best. I like the remark you made in a previous post about being outside when boondocking. That's the way I look at it. I figure if I move to comfortable weather -- weather that's "room temperature" only fresher -- then the outdoors becomes my home!

Enjoyed the post, Steve. You have an honest, thoughtful blog.

  4. Some clarification......Class A's do not mean just the length/motor. I have a 27ft Class A Gas Winnebago....no slides...do not tow.....and fit where I want.

A 1989 that I have had for 12 years, intend to keep.......454 Chevy that has parts readily available and a motor a simple shop mechanic can work on. I think you are making it too complicated not realizing how much more simple it can be. Good luck.

  5. I have a house in MN and usually spend 4 or 5 months in TX in the winter boondocking on Padre Island. Do several short boondocking trips in MN in the warm months.

My Winnebago Chiefton was top of the line in its day. Built like a tank and handles well on the road. It was well maintained before I bought it.

From what I hear....a lot of leak problems with the front overhead on the Class C's and much harder to handle in the wind.

I have added 270 watts of Solar on the roof and recently new tires.

In the past a water pump was replaced first year and last year alternator and ignition module. Everything else's maintenance.....belts, spark plugs etc.
