Cletus Continues To Do Great

Lots of photos tonight ...

It's been 72 hours and he acts like he has lived here since he was 8 weeks old. Of course he loves his walks. I am still making adjustments to the harness to get it to fit perfect. He doesn't mind when a car or truck passes by us as I lead him off the street and sit on the edge of a yard until they pass by. I still have to figure out something on these walks though. Dogs and hounds left behind bark when they see us leave and walk away just like all the neighbors dogs do when they see me walk by their house.

The hardest part so far is me, getting. use to the time change. I'm awake at 4am and can't get back to sleep. Only Walter and Watson stay sleeping while the other three go outside in the darkness. They know what "back to bed" means when they walk inside instead of of having their breakfast as they usually do. Ava has had to learn how to share her Nylabones since Cletus has chosen the larger one as one of his favorites.

He has a funny personality, very laidback and goes to his dog bed whenever he wants to nap. He can get quite boisterous with a deep loud hound dog bay. It sounds as if he had treed a squirrel.

I find it hard to understand how someone could give him away to begin with and then the second owner just turning him loose to run all over town as a stray. I have continued the feeding schedule that Rick was doing ... 3x per day, to put the weight back on him. If you look close on his neck it looks like he is wearing a collar but that is bare skin from some kind of collar that either cut his neck or rubbed it raw.

I don't think Ava is stressed out about the new hound. She acts normal for her as a puppy and doesn't leave Cletus alone. She loves to play with him. I noticed today she really grew a lot over the weekend. She will be 10 months old in a couple of weeks.

Henry doesn't mind the new addition. Nothing in his life has changed so he is a happy basset hound.

Walter ducked his head below the coffee table right when I snapped that photo. I thought that Watson wanted to play fetch when he had the bone like that but he headed off to the computer room to chew on it. He is slowly coming around to another bloodhound in the house. Not much went on Monday morning for them.

I am going to put a blanket over that dog bed. A blanket would be easier to clean than taking the cover off all the time. It has always been a problem for me to get the foam back inside those beds once I wash the cover and with this being the thickest bed I have ever bought, it would be that much harder.

This is a daily thing, twice per day. After Walter has had his kibble and followed it with a drink of water, Henry like to clean up his chin and jowls. It saves me time in cleaning up the floor where Walter's drool has dropped. All of these dogs and hounds do a good job of cleaning each other's ears, where I will step in later and finish the finer details with an ear cleaner.

They finished picking corn in the field on Sunday and I could see through the trees them loading the corn into the truck trailer across the field. I will wait until they disc it for the winter but for the first time I plan to walk the bloodhounds around that field after they are finished. There is nothing there that would bother Watson on his walks. That was my original plan before I bought the house and saw the field from Google Satellite.

I had no plans for the leaves today except blow them out of the rock area out into the yard. There was a pretty strong wind coming from the south (left) so I thought If I moved the leaves out into the yard the winds might blow them away. That dream didn't last long as the winds seemed to have stopped after I finished.

I have thought about calling Astound Internet for the millionth time and have them raise their cable at least 9ft above the ground as required my law. Right now the lowest point is 5'10" or the top of my head. Then I remember the last time I called them in July they turned my request into a "priority" and I would see someone one that day ... never happened. Now I am concerned if I called again, they do actually come out to rehang their internet cable, that they would tear up my yard and my neighbor's yard, getting their trucks to the poles.

It looked like rain all day today but that will not happen until tomorrow.

Ava couldn't get anyone to play with her this morning but she did late this afternoon. Henry spent most of the time watching them, as did Watson.

I was told that Cletus has a deep loud bay and I am finding that out today. He likes to speak to other dogs down the street that he hears, or sometimes he will see or hear someone out front. Many times I didn't see anyone out front. In fact one time I thought he was baying at the falling leaves. Ha Ha.

College basketball is starting their regular season season tonight. Most of the games are "money games" where the smaller school is invited to play a larger ranked team and get paid a lot of money for getting beat badly. That money earned goes a long way paying for other sports in a smaller school. Same thing is done in college football.

I am not sure how long I will last tonight. I am trying to stay up late as possible to get adjusted to this time change with hopes of sleeping longer but in the last two days that has been hard to do.

Big day tomorrow ... the College Football Playoff Committee comes out with their first poll of the year. That goes a long way in determining who the 12 teams will be in this year's college football playoff.

You thought I was going to say something else about tomorrow didn't you. I am not getting anywhere near that.

It was a good day today in "the tropics" of Southern Indiana.

    1. You are right he would have. He loved his handler, and his handler loved him a lot. I have other photos they sent me of them together and it was easy to see. I told Rick he could keep him if he wanted and I would understand but Rick told me it was the right move "plus he likes you". He leaned into me wanting me to hold him soon after I got there. "You are the right person for him" ... also Cletus never hesitated hopping up into the back of the Subaru.

  2. It's so great that everyone is getting along and enjoying each other's company. I loved the photos of Henry, those eyes are enough to melt anyone's heart.

    1. Henry is a neighborhood favorite on his walks and the vet staff. It makes things so much easier when they all get along. They even have it figured out when they all spring back into the house for the first time in the morning to their bowls of kibble. Ava lets him run past her bowl as he waits at the garage door to be let into the garage to eat.
