Butcher Box Delivered

I watched the shipping updates Friday knowing it was going to miss it's adjusted delivery day of February 7th. When I saw it has arrived in the Indianapolis area Friday night I thought there might be a chance for a Saturday delivery.

So the question is ... how long can dry ice keep a box of meet in air sealed packages ... frozen?

It would be much easier if I felt each package I transfer from the box to my freezer ... frozen. I did not expect that to be the case.

If you remember from my post the other day, I was told my customer service after the shipping label was made, the box would sit in a freezer until UPS picked up the package to ship.

As you see that the box arrived at UPS on Wednesday night at 6:55pm.

So we are talking from Wednesday at 6:55pm until Saturday morning at 12 noon, being out of a freezer packed in dry ice.

This is not my first time of getting these kinds of beef orders or other food orders shipped to my address here and my previous address a 100 miles north of here five years ago. The difference is, in every shipment I had the box of beef/seafood/chicken delivered within 48 hours after I placed an order.

Around 9am Saturday morning I got this update from UPS. No, not a text update like I had signed up for but it was me clicking on the bookmark I had made once I got the UPS shipping number. That screen shot in the first photo was from the Butcher Box website.

At 11:22 while sitting at my computer my watch vibrated a notification that I had a text. UPS telling me the box had been delivered. The driver was able to get it unloaded and leave without the crew barking at him, as all five were sleeping in the computer room.

The meat thermometer was not needed to check the temperature of the meat. Every piece was frozen hard as a rock!!! That really made me happy.

As part of their deal, I had three choices of what I wanted FREE FOR ONE YEAR ... salmon, chicken or ground beef. I chose the wild caught salmon that you see in that package. 8 pieces are in that bag.

This just shows you how little I know and how little confidence I have in companies. I am positive I am not the first one that has had a shipment delayed from this company but my brain cells are not lined up like that. I doubt most things when it comes to companies ... unless they are old vw bus parts. LOL

I was sure that my shipment of meat would be ruined.

When I opened the box and saw all the dry ice had disappeared I was sure the box of meat was ruined. Their thick heavy recycled paper insulation kept the shipment frozen.

I was happy, surprised if not shocked.

I will be reactivating my subscription after today's basketball game that comes on in 12 minutes.

Cold and rainy but a good day here in "the tropics" of Southern Indiana.

  1. I also am shocked it was still frozen. Looks like some good meat.
Thanks for the review. I'll check them out.

    1. The insulation was made of nothing but recycled paper. I will find out tonight how it compares to other companies I have bought from plus what I have bought locally.

  3. Many good dinners on your horizon. Look forward to your reviews after you taste-tasting.

I receive a medication each month, shipped from Tennessee to CA. It has to be kept at a certain temperature though not frozen, is shipped by Fed-Ex and filled with frozen Blu-Ice slabs. There is a small gauge inside with the med and it tells if the med is still cold enough. They supply a return label for the box and packaging that I must return via UPS.
