Life in 'the tropics' of Southern Indiana, the high desert of the southwest and back to 'the tropics' with the hounds and dogs.

Another Afternoon Of Sleep
After the hounds had lunch at 12:15pm, we all went outside as usual. It didn't feel that hot but it was muggy enough that I knew I didn't want to spend too much time outside. I needed to water the bank by the corner of the house with rain in the forecast only once in the next ten days.
Heidi headed straight to the backyard, which I was happy to see. She enjoys the sunshine when she's outside. While I watered the bank, she was rolling on her back and growling to herself. Sadie actually laid down next to her while Stella was laying away from them but watching me.
With all the tree leaves green I can only assume these are from the sycamore tree ... but how did they get that baked out?
I haven't seen the neighbor all weekend. He was working on his ATV early Saturday morning. I thought he had gone back to Texas where he works but I saw this sitting in his backyard this morning. I doubt he would leave in parked there during the time he is gone. He is good neighbor, isn't here a lot.
Heidi is only 8 years old but has a lot of gray on her face compared to other 8 year old bassets. I wonder if I gave her that gray hair earlier than planned? She seems happy and healthy.
It was too hot for Stella ... we all headed back inside around 1:15pm. I was going to watch the Reds game, stay inside all afternoon but became bored with the game and headed to bed. Another afternoon of sleep ... it's no wonder why I cannot sleep at night.
For the walk after 7pm I decided to take the camera so I could do a blog post on Wordpress. By the time I sat down and edited them, then looked to see that only 5 people all day had looked at the new blog post I did this morning ... I said screw it, I'll post here privately.
I did post the three photos of Heidi on the Wordpress blog with only a paragraph of content like the old days. That might be my last public post, I have a feeling it is.
Stella looked good tonight. She trotted a lot. She wandered off like the old Stella. She ignored me and pissed me off like the old Stella.
I had to yell her name but she finally started walking in my direction.
We started the walk with a sound of thunder south of us. There was a storm at Crane on the weather radar and said that lightning had struck 6 miles from us. Stella didn't seem to mind the sound of thunder. After a few steps into the field I felt my shoes and socks were wet ... it must have rained a little while we were sleeping.
We didn't have any rain in the forecast so here is a picture for proof. It is suppose to rain on Tuesday then the temps will drop to the 81/57 range over the following week. I'll save some money from not having to run the AC that last week in August. All of the Windows will be open.
I am basically bored with everything ... life in general. Nothing interests me right now.
Heidi Enjoys Hot Weather
We Continue To Hibernate
With the "Feels Like" temp above 90° before noon again today, our plans will not be any different from the past week. We do anything we need outside before 9:30am and our 2nd walk of the day occurs after 6pm. All the hounds agree with that while Heidi refuses to leave the air conditioning inside the house.
The way Stella took off running this morning you would have thought she would be leading the walk this morning but that wasn't the case. In fact after that sudden burst of energy in the first picture, she had barely moved by the time Sadie and I got back. Sadie was in the search mode this morning lagging way behind. She had to run half of the walk to catch up to me.
Stella is barely in the field just behind the house.
Sadie finishing her long run from the middle of the lower field to me back by the rolls of hay. She snuck up on me and I wasn't able to catch her running on camera.
Once she heard the mention Stella's name, she started looking for her but Stella was even out of view of the 200mm zoom lens.
During the walk I saw only two butterflies. A lot of their food source has dried up and died this past week. There are a few Butterfly Milkweed flowers still available.
I cut the last of the walk short when I saw where Stella was and started walking directly toward her. It was in line with my north property line pole. She did move as I walked passed her as if to follow me. When I didn't sense any hounds behind me I turned to see they were no longer moving. It was too hot by now to stand and wait so I had to go after both of them to get them to move.
Surviving the hot temps by spending most of their time in the shade of the Mahogany trees.
I spent some time at my local lake yesterday. The few camp sites they have were empty but well manicured and clean. Their RV lot was full but as I drove through the lot I didn't hear a lot, if any, generators or ACs running. I wonder how many are using their spot to store their trailers or RVs instead of camping?
I left the phone and camera in the FJ, rented a canoe for $10 and headed out for a couple of hours of exploration. It wasn't windy but there was a strong breeze to keep the hot temps off of me. It's nice having a lake nearby with easy access and it's never crowded.
The hounds will sleep off their afternoon inside the cool (almost cold) rooms.
Not much to report on here in 'the tropics' of Southern Indiana.

A Normal Saturday Morning
This morning started no different than the other 6 mornings of the week. I'll not list the routine since it has been listed before. I always have plans the night before for the next day but they rarely happen. Today I hope to drive down and spend some time at Lake Greenwood. I need to get out of the house more often then I do.
Neither of the hounds waited for me this morning. Even Stella trotted out into the field by the time I was finished taking some flower pictures. Both of them were more interested in eating fresh deer scat than doing the walk. I did most of the walk by myself this morning.
I wanted to take Stella over to the vet to get her weighed yesterday but I didn't do it. I am running out of gas and money with 12 days still to go in the month.
Stella trotted past me this morning ... I had also given her the buffered aspirin at breakfast.
It wasn't hot yet during the walk that we didn't start this morning until 10am. But it will be in the high 80's today and even hotter tomorrow. Those two window air conditioners I bought two years ago have been life savers and they don't use a lot of kilowatts to run.
Eating far away ... no interest in walking.
I was happy to see Stella come my direction when called.
They took off running and not sure how they knew there was scat where they ran too.
I am sneezing non-stop and eyes are watering with sinus problems today. I'll be taking some pills for sure. I am going to take the camera with me to Lake Greenwood today. It will only get hotter so I am going to head out right after I feed the hounds. It's already 11:14am.
Beautiful weather today in 'the tropics' of Southern Indiana.
Summer Is Ending
As it happens every August, plants, crops, flowers change and show the end of summer is near. The bees and butterflies disappear until next year. I caught a couple of insects in these photos that I did not see when I took the picture of the flowers. It was cool this morning but will be hot today and hotter tomorrow. Will September be our "payback" month and be hotter than normal?
I've started watering the bank in back. Bare spots were starting to show with the lace of recent rain. Geraniums are still hanging in there and look better today than they day I planted them.
I'm headed to the Crane Greenwood Lake today ...

It's Friday !!!
As if it makes any difference ... it's Friday. Years ago this use to be one of my favorite days of the week. Work was usually slow every other Friday since a lot of the government workers had the day off. I think today is one of those days because traffic is lighter than normal today. Not much planned today, just to enjoy the weather.
I let the hounds roll on their own today. I didn't have to yell and only called Stella a couple of times to get her to move in our direction. Sadie of course enjoyed being in the field.
I'd like to take Stella over to the vet today and get her weighed. Gets me out of the house and I'd like to see how much weight she has gained since April. She had gained 5 pounds the first month after that and I have a feeling that she has gained even more.
Another beautiful day today. For the first time I will not have to mow the yard after 7 days.
The neighbor is back from Texas. I am not sure if he drives or flies and then drives from the Indy airport. He might drive because he always arrives home after 1am. I saw him parked the other day when I had gotten up in the middle of the night to drink some water.
For some reason I feel much better today. I might even get some things done.
Two weeks until college football starts again. I can't wait. I cannot say that I am that excited about the NFL. I really don't like the pro player with the personal shows after a TD or just a normal play. Plus the protest against the national anthem totally pisses me off.
The B1G is showing basketball games this year on Friday nights ... what about the high school games? Also IU has only ONE home game on Saturday in the conference schedule. What is this all about ?? Money ....
I'm not bored today but I can't see much is going to happen.
