Getting Closer To The New Bloodhound

This is Cletus, the bloodhound I am going to adopt from South Central Bloodhound Rescue. I am in the final stages of the adoption and as of right now I will be getting a day and time I drive up to see him and bring him back to the crew. He is a 4 year old, spayed male. I will talk more about him after he arrives.

Not that it makes any difference, but I am guessing they will be picking corn in that field pretty soon. There are a few days the rest of the week that has a 50% chance or less for rain. That will delay the process even longer if the field gets a little wet. Seems late this year.

The last two days we have had some strong winds so the leaves are starting to fall in the yard. Last year I mulched or racked them more frequently than past years and it made the leaf collection job a lot easier. Still a lot to go but it is November 1st tomorrow so the first stage of the leaf project is at the top of the list.

As we sat out on the patio in 81° weather I was a little surprised I didn't see more energy from these three. You will see they didn't do much and Walter was nowhere around outside. I found him though as I walked back inside the house.

I voted on Monday. I had decided last Friday that Monday was the day no matter what. I got there 12 minutes before the doors opened at noon and was outside after voting 54 minutes later. I was told the line was much longer than past years and it had been that every every day for the week they had opened.

Yet, they only had two people checking your ID, 7 out of 10 voting machine with empty booths and then only two people process in the final step before I dropped my ballot in the ballot box.

Ava seems to be growing by the hour. She has adapted to our routines etc faster than I had thought she would. It took her no time at all to be housebroken, minus the plants she destroyed. Ha Ha.

I am just guessing based on how Watson acted when Samson showed up two years ago. He will take a half a day to pout, then will start playing with Cletus and will become best friends. He and I might have to make a vet appointment. He seems to be moving slower lately and I have always wondered if he might have a lower back issue.

Ava has taken full control of the yard. She will patrol the fence line first thing in the morning and then again right now for anything that might have gotten in her yard. She is always on the lookout for squirrels.

I think you can see the hounds and dogs just didn't have a lot of energy today.

All this time Walter was hiding behind us inside, taking a nap in the sunshine. For some reason after a long time, he has decided that it's okay if I cut his toenails with the clippers. He will be in the sit position while I raise each paw up. I didn't have to bribe him with food.

The foster dad to Cletus has been working with him on the leash. He is a certified dog trainer and has given me a lot of information about Cletus. He has worked with him since August 23rd. He said he would keep him for himself but he is too busy with his dog work plus he already has three basset hounds and three bloodhounds.

Needless to say, we both understand this mysterious urge to have a bloodhound or two ... it is just hard to explain to someone unless you have owned one.

Another beautiful day here in "the tropics" of Southern Indiana.
