Hounds And Dogs Enjoy Football

The weather was fantastic on Saturday. It is even better this morning at 55° as I put this post together. I also found out some tv service answers yesterday with my good test of 13 hours straight, watching college football. The hounds had "their" patio door open all day and could run, play, and sleep whenever they wanted. This screen shot is from YouTube tv that I was trying out with their 5 day free trial. If you have never had YouTube tv, they will give you 21 days free. That 4 way split screen is nice.

The following photos show the hounds and dogs on Saturday.

Sunday seems to have the same start for them. They sleep after their morning breakfast and then about an hour after they get me up, they are grooming each other. They clean ears, jowls, and eyes of each other. Today was much cooler than yesterday and Walter was actually playing hard with the other three.

I knew when Walter was chasing the other three down the hallway all the way outside and then wrestling with Henry ... he was happy the hot weather was gone, at least for a few days.

Ava continues to be a very smart 8 month old puppy, and at times I am a little surprised how quickly she fit into our routines.

Walter played so hard this morning, and it's only 9am here, he was in a deep snoring state soon afterward.

As you know I have spent the past year off and on trying to come up with a tv service plan that shows all the channels I need to watch ballgames and not cost as much as I have been paying. Off and on I would call and put my Directv service on vacation mode (no fee) and even last year in December I canceled the service but backed out before the cancellation date arrived.

Well after yesterday's 13 hour test of watching college football I choose YouTube tv. Then as soon as Directv opened this morning I called them to cancel my service. I had been with them since 1998 when they bought a satellite company called Prime Star. There were a few times in 26 years I went to Dish Network and even YouTube tv in 2020 when Directv tv and I couldn't agree on monthly fees. I would always come back though because they had the better picture quality.

It's like I told the customer service rep this morning. Once streaming services had a picture quality as good as Directv Satellite it was a game changer. It went from a picture quality advantage to cost and Directv is just too high for what I watch.

I needed the Choice package to get all the sports channels I needed. With a $45 discount I was still paying $121. One of those $20 discounts expired in August so my bill was going up another $20. The best she could offer me to stay was "we can sign you up for the Entertainment Package, Disney + and your bill would be $114.

Did she not hear a word I said when she asked me what channels I like watching???

I told her I was a sports junkie and needed only the 4 network channels, BTN, FoxSports1, Bally Sports and nothing else. I know and she knew that was not possible ... so why offer me an entertainment package if I only watch sports 99.9% of the time ???

Since I had YouTube tv in 2020, that made me a prior customer and I wasn't able to get the current deal for new customers of 21 day free trial and 4 months at a discounted price. But my nephew signed up Friday and got that deal as a brand new customer. NO I am not getting any referral money for telling you that, just passing along information in case a blog reader is trying to figure out the maze of tv services and all they offer.

It is still early and still time to take in a bike ride this morning. The cuts on my head have healed and I can actually scrub that area of my head with a wash cloth without any pain. I never had a headache or dizziness like I did in November 2021 after a fall. That time I slipped in some water on my already slick kitchen tile in the middle of the night. That fall took weeks to recover from and I couldn't drive for a while.

College football seasons is a good thing for me. It has got me completely way from all the crappy news, political stuff on X (twitter). When you comment, like or reply on X about football then the system will start sending you posts about football and the political stuff disappears. Of course their feature of "muted words" is great and I have a long list of words that keeps my X account to sports, dogs, and nutrition.

Facebook ads I am forced to see are more of a fear tone. For example bad dog food, wrong brand name of Magnesium, not the right kibble for my dogs, the best nail clippers for dogs and anything else that my iPhone or especially my Apple Watch picks up in my conversations with people.

Yet, Facebook is still a good way to keep in touch with long distance friends, old friends you haven't seen in 50 years, sports teams or any hobby interests.

Sometimes you need to grab Henry's head to clean him up really good.

I need to get outside and enjoy this great weather. It is suppose to be 91° on Wednesday.

A great weekend here in "the tropics" of Southern Indiana. ... (auto spell capitalizes Southern but should that be capitalized when it is used that way?)

  1. Steve, glad you found a way to see all the football games you want, and save money, too. That's a good way to go. Attending any college football games these days is way too expensive.

    1. I didn't see how a family of four could afford to go years ago. I figured out one time for just me to go and nothing extravagant it cost me $125 and that if the ticket I bought was at face value. Plus there are no lines in my house to use the restroom or get food. :)
