Henry Unafraid Of Thunder

While the winds picked up Friday afternoon it looked like the storms were blowing north over the Huachucas and we'd miss some rain we needed. The loud thunder was rolling and it was a true test to see if this new puppy was going to be afraid or be a storm trooper. Henry passed with flying colors as he roamed the backyard while Stella, Heidi, Walter and I sat on the patio enjoying the breeze.

People have asked what he is doing in a yard of nothing but rocks. His nose is superb and he is finding every piece of small wood that Walter missed a few months ago. At times he will just lay there and enjoy the warm rocks. Back at the ranch his outdoor kennel had stone just like this yard. Once he walked back through his doggie door it was cold air conditioning.

Blogger is acting up again putting the photos in reverse order ... I'll wait a while to finish this post and see what happens later.

While rained outside Walter and Henry had a very active wrestling match inside. It's good to see Walter take it easy with a puppy that he could smash if he wanted to. He does exactly what Stella did to him a few weeks ago ... lets Henry pull and chew at his excess skin, climb all over him and keeps him playing when you think they are finished.

They played until totally exhausted. I saw Henry getting a little more aggressive toward the end. Once he gets a little bigger it could be interesting.

Finishing this post Saturday morning ... Blogger put the photos back in order when I loaded them but then it went back to it's new way of spacing between photos and the paragraph. You can see the difference between the starting paragraphs and the ones after my Blogger announcement. It might not bother you but that kind of stuff drives me insane.

I'll let you know if I stop blogging here and move. It never changes and Blogger has had MONTHS to get this crap fixed.

A Lot Of Sleep & Playing

I found out this morning around 4am while letting Heidi outside to pee, that Henry not only likes the backyard but he is not afraid of the dark. I had to put on some shoes to walk across the rock yard and carry him back inside so I could get a little more sleep. Once the sun started rising he was back outside again exploring the fence line. Based on what I have seen, he has a pretty good basset hound nose, only second to the bloodhound.

Blogger continues to irritate me enough to stop and move my main blogging to Wordpress. When you have 34 photos and each time you hit the return key even without any photos in the post, it always sends the cursor to the bottom of the page. Like now I would like to hit the return key to start a second paragraph under this photo but I know I will not be able to.

Heidi was also up and outside bright any early today. Is the puppy or the new joint supplement I have been giving her? She is slowly warming up to Henry but I am not sure they are best friends yet. Let's just say she does not want to be messed with in any way and let's him know it with a bark.

We don't have any fires near us but for the past week it has been hazy enough that the Mule Mountains, the San Jose Mts in Mexico are usually covered to where you cannot see them. Maybe you can tell by this photos of the Huachuca's.

Walter and Henry play hard for long periods of time or until Walter wears out and has to lay down on the cool tile. As you can see in the next few photos sleeping is one of their major activities during the day.

The only thing missing in those photos is the loud sound of Walter snoring.

Henry came home with a few new chew toys but Walter seems to think they were meant for him.

Proof that Henry has a good nose ... just like Walter use to a few months ago ... out of all the rocks in the back yard Henry can find pieces of wood like this and loves to chew them. I have never seen a piece of wood like this while walking around the yard since living here but someway they can find it, dig it out then bring it inside hidden in their jowls.

Not a bad day today in the "Wild West".

Henry Looks For Rattlesnakes

With the help of Walter to get started, Henry did his first exploration of the backyard fence line for any rattlesnakes that may have snuck into his yard. With a quick start Walter left him on his own, mostly because it was too hot for Walter at 98° close to 5pm on Thursday night. You can tell by the position of his ears how fast or how slow he might be walking.

After all of that work he needed some water. You can tell by the quality of water someone has been in the dirt.

It had been a little over 30 hours since Henry's arrival and he has simply wore out Walter by playing so much. It is now Walter not Stella that can barely fit in an afternoon nap.

Stella continues to enjoy her new found freedom getting back to her old routines before Walter arrived. Thursday afternoon she was enjoying the cool air from the air conditioner vent that is just behind that stereo speaker.

I did a little change for this post ... after the initial introduction I put the other descriptions above the photos.
